Success Stories

Real experiences from youth, families, and community members impacted by ABU.

I work with students who need MORE, more direction, more guidance, more consideration for their unique situation. All About Understanding has been an invaluable resource for our students. They CARE. They CONNECT. They ENGAGE. They GUIDE. Our kids feel SEEN and feel HEARD when they get to interact with Mr. G. and Mr. AB. Not only does All About Understanding care about our area youth, but they also actually seek out ways to get them the resources and connections to overcome the obstacles in their way!

Julie McGee

ABU Volunteer

My name is Julie McGee and I have been volunteering with ABU for  three years.  It is one of the most worthwhile organizations I have ever been associated with.  They do so many things for the youth and adults in our community such as advocating for mental health, being role models through mentorships and coaching, sponsoring youth through scholarships, holding events such as fashion shows - where youth and young adults show their talents, summer events - where the youth can enjoy themselves in a positive environment.  They encourage self- awareness and self-understanding.  They teach youth vital life skills,  how to navigate life, and to find peace.

Takenya Clark

Parent of ABU Participant, Jaleigha Clark

I want to express my appreciation for the positive impact that All About Understanding has had on my daughter and me. As the parent, ABU has helped me with reassurance, encouragement, and a strong sense of community. It has given me peace of mind knowing that my child is in a safe, nurturing environment focused on developing her character and potential. I love the support system it offers, not only for my daughter but also for families like mine who benefit from the ABU staff.  For my daughter, the impression has been noticed. She has grown in confidence, responsibility, and maturity since joining ABU. She has learned the importance of teamwork, leadership, and perseverance. Most importantly, she genuinely enjoys being involved. She looks forward to the activities each week and is excited to come home and tell me all about it. The joy she feels, the personal growth, and the knowledge she continues to experience are a direct reflection of the ABU’s mission and values. I am truly grateful for the role it plays in shaping her into a confident, well-rounded young lady. Thank you for your continued dedication and commitment to the children and families you help!

Selyn Duke

ABU Participant

When I first encountered ABU, I knew there was a purpose and path behind me and my mom being there. At first, I was shy and unsure of everything, especially because something life-changing had happened not too long before I was introduced to ABU, and I was ready to give up. I didn’t even believe there were any good people left in this world, but the more I got to know everyone, the more I learned and grew more comfortable with others and myself. Through ABU, I’ve been given many opportunities to grow, learn, and be met with true love and grace, and not just for myself but also for selfless reasons. I’m now at college in another state doing what I’ve always loved and wanted to do, so in conclusion, with the help of ABU, I have grown into someone I never thought I could be, and I will forever be grateful for everything the people of ABU have done for not just me, but everyone they’ve helped.
